Visit to Las Terrezas

Today we awoke in El Charco Azul to a quick breakfast followed by a short bus ride to Las Terrezas, a small community complete with mountain vistas, a large lake, and quaint houses. There, we were quickly rounded up by a guide who walked us to a school nearby. We spoke briefly to the school principal before looking in on primary and secondary school students having a regular academic day. After saying our goodbyes, we returned to the bus and made a small drive to two local artists’ workshops. The first artist recycled paper and other materials to make nearly all of his artwork, while the other was a well known painter who had created exhibitions in many places outside of Cuba. Following this, we were ready for our next meal, so we made an additional drive to stop for lunch. Directly afterwards, we stopped by a cafe for some Cuban coffee and WiFi usage. Thoroughly caffeinated and caught up on social medias, we made our drive back to El Charco Azul and bid farewell to our guide. Upon our return, we were given an hour to prepare ourselves for a bit of service. We had been tasked with fertilizing about a dozen or more coffee bean plants located just a short walk from where we were staying. Task completed, we were rewarded with an opportunity to feed the horses located on the compound. Dirty and satisfied from our admittedly brief venture into manual labor, we returned to our rooms for a well-needed clean up and rest before dinner time.
