The Forbidden City

Today we went to the forbidde

n city, and more monumental pleases with history. In a building right next to the forbidden city, it had a picture of Chairman Mao. From the tower and palace it’s 2 kilometers long, there was also a bridge that mas majestic, it was very beautiful. The forbidden city was very beautiful but we learned that it wasn’t all perfect. The emperor had to stay in the forbidden city and could not leave or he could lose the kingdom. There were some statues of animals besides the building. The animal would remind him to go back to the thrown ( if in danger) or if the emperor would only stay in the forbidden city the animal would remind to go back and see his people. Without invitation they couldn’t go there, and that’s the reason why it’s called the forbidden city. If they crossed the wall without invitation they would be shot. Twenty-four emperors spent they’re life in the forbidden city and some of them never left Beijing.

After visiting the forbidden city, are whole group was taken back to the market close by the hotel to freely shop around and buy souvenirs along with food. The market had many shops containing items like crepes and candied strawberries to items like fancy fans and tea cups. The experience of walking around a Chinese market with friends was thrilling and new. Being able to buy new things as well was very enjoyable and communicating with the shop owners was nice.

Once we were finished walking around the market and buying things, we went to eat dinner and were treated with Beijing’s specialty duck. The skin was crispy and we even got to witness the cutting of the duck. There were also many other delicious foods and tea at dinner that we all gladly feasted upon whilst talking to each other and having fun.
