In preparation for our departure, we came together as a group yesterday to discuss the purpose and goals of the HPA OurWorld Travel Abroad Program. The group also watched Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's famous TED talk on "The danger of a single story". We were asked to think about the single stories that may exist for us, as well as the single stories we might have about our trip destinations. We also discussed how to keep an open mind to receiving a more complete “story”.

“The single story creates stereotypes…and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are

untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.”

-Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
