Today was filled with travel, from buses to subways to bullet trains to trolley, making it seem very mild compared to the rest of the trip. But after making it to Hiroshima we went to an island off the coast called Miyajima. Miyajima is a holy island and is the home of a few ancient shrines and temples. It is an island where you are not supposed to die or give birth on. After that, we went to a large building dedicated to peace (Orizuru Tower) that overlooks the Atomic Bomb Dome. Which is a nickname given to a building that was right underneath the Atomic Bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Tomorrow we meet our host families. I'm so excited!

Miyajima (The Floating Shrine)

Beautiful cherry blossom.

Learning how to make Manjyuu (stuffed pancake?)

George loves the red beans (anko).

The Shrine Gate (Torii). It was a low-tide, so we could walk to it.

Returning to the land on the ferry.

The lookout at the Onizuru Tower.

The Atomic Bomb Dome at night.

The Hiroshima style "Okonomiyaki." It was very delicious.
